The discussion was structured around key questions about the defining characteristics of pure low-cost carriers, the strategic and operational implications of hybridisation, and the future of the LCC model. Panelists debated topics including the non-negotiables of a pure LCC, whether LCC purity remains a strength, if hybridisation is a strategic choice or a survival response, and at what point hybridisation risks eroding the cost advantage that defines low-cost carriers.

A recurring theme was the balance between growth and discipline. Most carriers now treat hybridisation as a necessity, yet panelists emphasized that it carries significant risk. One question repeatedly surfaced: at what point does a low-cost carrier stop being a low-cost carrier?

Opinions were split. One perspective, voiced from the manufacturing side, suggested that low-cost carriers are adopting select practices from full-service airlines and that hybridisation represents the natural next stage of the model. More cautious voices warned that, without strategic control, the same process can gradually dilute the cost advantage that has historically defined LCC success.

The panel also considered related challenges, including the structural narrowing of LCC cost advantage, the role of primary airports, the impact of full-service carrier practices, and the longer-term strategic positioning of LCCs over the next decade.
