Forum Highlight | Panel Discussion: Trans-Border E-commerce in a Fragmented World – China’s Role Amid Trade Frictions, Fulfillment Shifts, and New Growth Corridors

At the Air Cargo & Logistics Development (China) Forum 2025, held on September 18–19 in Shanghai and organized by Wernosa, a forward-looking panel gathered leading voices from across the e-commerce logistics ecosystem to explore how global trade shifts and regulatory changes are reshaping cross-border air cargo.

Mr. Mathieu Sérafimoff, Managing Director, Aeris Logistica consulting / Managing Partner - Operations & Quality Compliance, SkyForge Consulting

Mr. Alex Aristov, International Business Development Executive, PACTL

Ms. Helen Gan, Director of Commercial Sales, Skyway Airlines Inc.

Ms. Amanda Zhou, Country Manager China, Etihad Cargo

The discussion dove into how geopolitical tensions, from US–China trade frictions to EU customs reforms, are redefining cargo flows and capacity strategies. Panelists highlighted that China — accounting for over 40% of global e-commerce revenues — continues to be the engine of innovation, with platforms like Shein, Temu, TikTok, and Alibaba transforming fulfillment models to stay agile in a volatile trade environment.

As low-value, high-frequency shipments surge under de minimis thresholds, airlines and logistics hubs are redesigning operations for speed, scalability, and compliance. The EU’s evolving parcel regulations are also pushing the industry to turn transparency and traceability into a new source of competitive advantage.

Looking ahead, emerging corridors spanning Vietnam, Turkey, and the Middle East are expected to drive the next phase of e-commerce growth, diversifying supply chains beyond traditional China–EU and China–US lanes.

The session closed with engaging audience dialogue — a reminder that in today’s fragmented world, collaboration and adaptability remain the keys to unlocking global e-commerce potential.
